Revival: Metanoia 2024

As we journey in to a new year at Revival :The Summer Solstice Celebration Festival, I want to explore the concept of this year’s theme Metanoia and how it applies to all elements of the Festival. Today I will be taking a closer look at Metanoia in the life of a musician.

This is also in invitation to join us at the ATWAS Camp & Stage

Before I talk about the orgin of Metanoia, I’m going to discuss the festival and ATWAS.

About Revival: The Summer Solstice Celebration

Set against the majestic backdrop of Eden, Utah, from June 27-30, Revival invites you to embark on an immersive journey of relearning. Here, at North Fork Flats, we bring together a community that resonates with the ethos of creative living.

Creative living is about creating the life you desire. It is an audacious act of sculpting each day to mirror who you truly are and what you genuinely want. It’s the courage to embrace the discomfots of change and to take ownership of your personal narrative. This philosophy forms the foundation of Revival.

Our four-day event is filled with an eclectic mix of live music, over 70 enriching workshops, breathwork classes, and community events that evoke self-discovery and personal growth.

From our contemplative theme of Metanoia – the journey of changin ones mind, heart, self and way of life – to inspiring performances and engaging discussions, every aspect of Revival is designed to inspire and ignite your creative spirit.

We offer a safe and supportive environment where you’re encouraged to express, connect, and explore. Meet likeminded souls, engage with innovative ideas, participate in healing ceremonies, and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.

As we come together in the spirit of unity and transformation, we hope to empower each individual to step into their power as creators of their own reality. Join us in this celebration of life, transformation, and the beauty of creative living.

We warmly invite you to Revival, where every moment is an opportunity to awaken to your fullest potential. Let’s revive, reimagine, and recreate together. Welcome to Revival – your journey towards creative living starts here.

New Phone. Who ATWAS!? 🙂

ATWAS Is The Acronym For (All The World’s A Stage) AKA The Advocates Formerly Known As TRUCE

ATWAS, nestled in the heart of the Revival festival in Utah, began as a vibrant activity for supporters and advocates of TRUCE, a pivotal nonprofit in the journey of medical cannabis in Utah. Our roots are deep in advocacy, education, and transformation. When TRUCE closed its doors, ATWAS emerged, evolving from its initial purpose to embrace new chapters in plant medicine and community building. Our theme camp celebrates plant medicine and culture with a beautiful vibrant stage, live music, workshops and 12 foot light up mushrooms. The camp is mostly constructed of recycled and repurposed materials. Loni’s Lucid Lounge serves as a space for people to chill, relax and find bliss in solitude. There are costume tents and fun activities for families and children. Revival is a family friendly event and we provide a safe space for kids. Our camp also has a trampoline!

You can learn more about TRUCE or read about some of our work in this Forbes Magazine article, or simply visit the ATWAS home page.

“What Is Metanoia?” You Ask

Metanoia is a term derived from Greek, meaning “change in one’s way of life resulting from penitence or spiritual conversion.” In a broader sense, it refers to a transformative change in one’s mindset, perspective, or way of thinking. It often involves self-reflection, personal growth, and a shift towards a deeper understanding or awareness. In various contexts, metanoia can manifest as a journey of spiritual awakening, a profound psychological transformation, or an evolution in one’s beliefs, values, and behaviors. In essence, metanoia represents a fundamental change that leads to greater insight, clarity, and personal development.

Revisiting The 2023 Theme Kintsugi

Kintsugi (or Kintsukuroi) is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the cracks with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. This technique not only restores the object but also highlights its imperfections, making it more beautiful and valuable than before. It symbolizes embracing flaws and impermanence as part of the object’s history.

My Experience

For me, the best part of the Revival has been taking a deep dive in to the overall theme. Last year I embraced Kentsugi and it really enhanced the overall vibe and experience of the event. Everything seemed deeper and more meaningful when I was mindful of the theme . I experienced some legit personal growth and healing at the 2023 festival. I’m excited for what this year has to offer for me, my partner, my friends and our Revival community.

Mixing Concepts – Theme Crossover

In a future post I will be talking about how last years theme Kentsugi intertwines beautifully with Metanoia, but for today’s post I will be talking about how musicians can apply Metanoia to the overall Revival experience and their daily lives.

Our Advice As The Revival OGs

We ask that you walk in to Revival with open eyes, ears, heart and mind. There might be something more there for you.

For me, it’s been transformative experience. Revival provided a space for me to heal, be vulnerable and just being my true authentic self. I been Revival since the 1st festival. I feel very fortunate that I was there since the beginning and watch it grow, evolve and transform in to something beautiful. I have watched people come together as a collective and use their individual talents and skills to build a wonderful inclusive space for our community to grow.

Exploring Metanoia As A Musician

For us musicians, metanoia represents a transformative journey in their artistic expression, creativity, and personal growth. Here’s how it applies:

  1. Creative Evolution: Musicians experience metanoia as they undergo significant shifts in their artistic style, genre exploration, and lyrical themes. This transformation often arises from periods of introspection, experimentation, and self-discovery.
  2. Breakthrough Moments: Metanoia in music occurs when musicians experience breakthroughs in their creative process or performance, leading to new levels of inspiration and innovation. These moments of clarity and insight often result from embracing vulnerability and pushing past artistic boundaries.
  3. Self-Reflection and Growth: Musicians engage in metanoia by actively seeking opportunities for self-reflection and growth. This may involve exploring new musical techniques, delving into diverse cultural influences, or challenging preconceived notions about their craft.
  4. Balancing Tradition and Innovation: Metanoia challenges musicians to strike a balance between honoring musical traditions and embracing innovation. It encourages them to evolve creatively while staying true to their artistic roots and identity.
  5. Challenges and Resilience: Musicians encounter challenges and resistance as they navigate the journey of metanoia, whether from fans, critics, or industry expectations. However, these obstacles serve as catalysts for growth and resilience, propelling them forward in their artistic evolution.
  6. Vulnerability and Connection: Metanoia fosters vulnerability in music, creating opportunities for deep connection and emotional resonance with audiences. Musicians who authentically share their transformative experiences through their music forge meaningful connections with listeners on a profound level.
  7. Collaboration and Mutual Growth: Collaboration with other artists becomes a vehicle for mutual growth and exploration of metanoia. Through shared experiences and creative exchanges, musicians inspire each other to push boundaries and expand their artistic horizons.
  8. Daily Practices and Rituals: Musicians cultivate metanoia through daily practices and rituals that nourish their creativity and well-being. Whether it’s through meditation, journaling, or simply immersing themselves in diverse musical influences, these practices sustain their ongoing journey of transformation.
  9. Future Vision and Evolution: Metanoia propels musicians towards a future vision of artistic evolution and innovation. It encourages them to embrace uncertainty, adapt to change, and continue pushing the boundaries of their craft in pursuit of deeper creative fulfillment.

In summary, metanoia is an integral part of the musician’s journey, driving them towards continuous growth, innovation, and self-discovery in their artistic expression.
